The work of Caroline Achaintre (born 1969) has enjoyed considerable visibility in recent years: solo exhibitions at the Tate Britain in 2015, at Mo.Co. in Montpellier in 2019, at the CAPC in Bordeaux and at the Giuliani Foundation (Rome) in 2020, at the Kunstmuseum in Ravensburg in 2021... She has also taken part in recent group exhibitions on ceramics (@Les flammes@ at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in 2021 and @Contre-nature@ at Mo.CO. in 2022). Her work ranges from large tufted wool creations reminiscent of tapestries, to ceramics, and to a lesser extent to basketry structures. The forms, by turns disturbing and fantastic, sometimes evoke primitive masks. Her work is therefore part of an evolution that is currently underway in the contemporary scene, with works that affirm a form of materiality, or even a link with craft practices.
