Valérie Bacart raises the question of the categories of art and craft through the use of textiles from the Arts and Crafts movement to the present day. The exhibition is based on key moments in the history of art, from the Bauhaus and the 1920s, to the Lausanne Biennials of the 1960s and 1970s, and contemporary works. It features works by Gunta Stölzl, Annie Albers, Varvara Stepanova, Sonia Delaunay, Anton Pevzner, Jagoda Buic, Elsi Giauque, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Sheila Hickx, Louise Bourgeois, Alighiero & Boetti, Olga De Amaral, Josep Grau Garriga, Annette Messager, Lin Tianmiao and Chiharu Shiota. The spirit of the textile, as Valérie Bacard puts it, is freed from materiality in the course of this story, to come face to face with voids and solids, with the lines of force of architecture. |
